Orange Harbor is one of almost 43,000 manufactured home communities in the U.S. According to MH Insider, a manufactured home industry publication, 20.9 million people in the U.S. live in

manufactured housing with 73 percent of them living in homes where they pay lot rent.

Orange Harbor is a cooperative where the residents own the land under the home and also own

ownership in the community. There are approximately 400 cooperative manufactured home communities in Florida.

There are 36 different manufactured home builders with 148 factories throughout the U.S. The largest factory home builder is Clayton Homes who builds almost half of the manufactured housing in the country. Cavco Industries, which owns Palm Harbor Homes, is the third largest factory home builder in the US.

The Tampa-St. Petersburg area ranks 10ᵗʰ in the nation for placement of

manufactured homes. Texas has the most cities placing manufactured homes with Houston being number one, Dallas-Ft Worth at third, Austin at fourth and San Antonio ranked fifth.

What may be surprising is that most manufactured home communities have between 25 and 99 homesites. Only 1 percent of the manufactured home communities in the U.S. are comprised of

500 to 999 homesites. Orange Harbor has 365 home sites.
